dc.description.abstract | In preparation of an Ocean Bottom Node (OBN) technology application in Bintuni Bay's high current environment, BP has worked with several node manufacturers to conduct equipment tests to ensure high quality data can be acquired with new efficient nodal systems. The objective of the test was to investigate and demonstrate that ambient noise levels of the new equipment were comparable to legacy data in the area, and the specific Ocean Bottom Nodes tested are stable in these tidal currents. Furthermore, because of accelerated rates of corrosion to in-sea seismic equipment in previous OBC programs, corrosion tests were also conducted. When acquisition is intended in high current environments, the authors recommend to conduct field experiments to determine the suitability of available seismic node technologies in that environment. The conclusion from tests presented in this paper is that some Ocean Bottom Nodes, but not all, are appropriate for use in Bintuni Bay OBS surveys, and survey durations of over 2 months may require additional spare anodes. | |
