dc.description.abstractABSTRACT The development of community-based short film continues to grow in all regions in Indonesia. This is also reflected in Palu, a small town without roots prior history of cinema. Then the emergence of a number of short films produced in the city of Palu is inseparable from the role of a young child. In this study takes three film directors who have been active producing short films. All three directors are also not only produce the film, but also design their strategies distiribusi good movie playback was done in collaboration with the community outside the city of Palu and by following short film festivals at home and abroad. In addition, the three directors in this study has won the film festival. The third director is Yusuf Radjamuda, Elediansyah Latief, and Charles Edward. The type of research is a qualitative study with ethnographic methods using two theories are identional and materialistic. By using both the theory, ethnographic methods in this study aims to examine the relationship between the elements of ideas and materials for short indie film director of the film they produce. This researh obtains results that a thorough review of the choice of language used by the film director of short films in Palu. In this study using two major concepts in view of the director is a communicator and author. Both of these concepts are used to complement each other in the view of the director as part of the community and individuals, as well as the director as the person who is fully responsible for the language of film used on three aspects: technical ability, personalitis and interior meaning. From the results of this research show that as communicators director divided into two categories: First, do not deliberately show themselves and to use the film as a representation of self and the local culture. Second, the director deliberately incorporate local elements that indigenous and local issues in the film. Meanwhile, the director as the author obtained the result that the three directors have good technical ability based on the results of formal and informal learning. For persnoality aspect, the third director is a person who has high confidence. Film language they use to represent themselves as Yusuf Radjamuda emphasis on the relationship in every film, Eldienasyah Latif stressed on the psyche of young people who are free, and Charles Edward emphasis on the locality. The last aspect of the author is the interior meaning, of the three directors showed that both the director and Eldiansyah Radjamuda Yusuf Latief able to link the technical aspects and personalities in their films. Joseph Radjamuda seen from the aspect storytalling while Eldiansyah emphasis on alternative forms of movie. Charles Edward to use the capabilities of cinematography based aesthetic beauty of the images in constructing the story.
