| dc.description.abstract | Abstract Media relations is one of the most important public relations activities in government organisations, especially related to its capability to disseminate informations to the vast public and to enhance or to build organisation reputation and credibility by optimizing mass media publicities. The Indonesian Election Commission (KPU) as the government organisation who manage general election was assumed by many observers to have a sort of bad publicity by the mass media. This research will describe how media relations was managed by KPU Kabupaten Sleman during the 2014 Election. This include how KPU Kabupaten Sleman develope their credibility as the trusted news resource, how they build a constructive personal relationship with the media and how they enhance their cooperation ability/capacity which is reflected in how the KPU Kabupaten Sleman implementing a number of technical media relations program. In addition, we also discuss what factors influence the practice founded or why the practice implemented and how was the impact of this effort to its publicities in the local printed mass media. The result of this research indicated that the newly and clean KPU commisioner profile, the hights of their media relations importance understanding and the open culture they built, positively contributed to their effort to develope their credibility as a news resource, to enhance their constructive personal relationship with the media and to improve their media relations cooperation capabilty. In the other hand, this media relations importance understanding was not implemented optimally yet showed by the lack of communication and leadership competencies and the complicated beurocracy in implementing media relations program. This complicated the KPUs effort to enhance the quality of the media relations program. However, the media monitoring as one of the simplest way to evaluate media relations showed that the 2014 Election and KPU Kabupaten Sleman related publicities were relatively neutral compared to the asumption used in the introduction chapter.
