dc.description.abstractABSTRACT This research starts with the question: why there is a place like a Jawa Tondano village in Minahasa. All the Jawa Tondano Villagers are Moslem and Javanese blood whom living in Minahasa as a Christian basic area. In daily activities they are free to express to the others about their identity as a Moslem and Javanesse. They used some strategies to express and maintaining their identity so thats the reason about what this research is important and interesting topic. The unique things are as a majority group in Indonesia Jatonesse have to face the reality they are a minority in Minahasa, and as a minority they have some strategies to stand with their identity as Moslem. This research was using qualitative method of research like case study with in-depth interview and also gain the data from the documents. In this research explain about the Jaton as a Kyai Modjo and his 62 followers generations who was exiled by Dutch since 1830 begun to introduce about agricultural modern techniques and home industry. They were also adapted and consolidated themselves with the people through a marriage with Minahasa girls. The marriage did not fade their believe and aqidah as a Moslem and Javanese culture they had. As an immigrant in Tondano Minahasa, they were learning about Minahasa culture and applying to their life together with their own culture. Amalgamation between Minahasa and Javanese culture made a Jatonesse. That is the top one option to keep their position save in the new country. The power of knowledge, adaptation and language are their key to get a control of Minahasa people. This phenomenon shows us how knowledge could be political power that influence others. They are the strategies to prevent the Minahasan accept them as a part of Minahasa ethnic and retain their identity as a Moslem. Keywords: Minahasa, Ethnic Strategy, Jawa Tondano, Kyai Modjo
