Abstract
Abstract This study sought to describe urban farming development efforts undertaken by residents of RT 34 Kampung Taman Kel.Patehan Yogyakarta. To support this research used the theory of the mediating structure Peter L.Berger and Neuhaus explaining the importance of mediation institutions in the implementation of a bridge between the public life with private life for the implementation of development / empowerment. This research was conducted using qualitative methods with a model case study. Data and information collection techniques used were interviews, participant observation and documentation. The results of this study indicate that the economic crisis in 1998 resulted in soaring prices of basic necessities in the market the public burdensome reality grassroots. Urban farming is an idea that was developed as an effort to suppress the household expenses. Urban farming trip is not easy, because of the participation of the residents are still minimal in the end. In this study we will see the importance of an institutional bridge between the citizens, the state, along with the strengthening of its social base. Subsequently, by utilizing the mediation institution in this regard is the Neighborhood (RT), eventually became a means not only to educate the citizens but also make the policies related to it. So residents became involved overall. Then, after the urban farming already has a strong system and well, emerging countries through its government entered into a system built on the awareness of citizens. The government brought empowerment programs, with the assistance to the citizens. However a problem, the assistance has tended to make the urban farming system built city residents gradually become submerged. This is because, the assistance is not intended to encourage urban agriculture. but lead to other forms of activities, which can be said to have no direct implications for urban agriculture.
